CHS Booster Club/Cheshire Herald Athletes of the Week

Congrats to the Cheshire High School Booster Club/The Cheshire Herald Athletes of the Week: senior Mikayla Crieger (field hockey), freshman Brendan Murray (boys' cross country), senior Alexandra Pelletier (girls' soccer), and once again senior Andrew Yamin (football)!

(Field Hockey) In a 4-3 home loss to Daniel Hand, Crieger scored twice. Versus Lyman Hall, Crieger assisted on the game-winner (1-0) from classmate Kya O'Donnell. The next day, Crieger contributed to all three goals in a 3-1 victory at New Canaan. She converted the team's first penalty stroke for a 1-0 halftime lead. Crieger scored her second goal off penalty-corner passes from classmates Erica Stauffer and Maggie O'Reilly. Sophomore Sarah Pierpont, assisted by Crieger, tallied the third goal (3-0) on another penalty corner.

(Boys' Cross Country) Murray led his team in the dual-meet finale at Cheshire Park. He posted a best time (16:16) to win his second race of the season to help his team to a 8-1 finish in dual meets.  At Wickham Park Invite in Manchester he placed third overall in a time of 16:31 .  Cheshire came in seventh (161 points).

(Girls' Soccer) Pelletier netted both goals on passes from classmate Hannah Bonitz and junior Alyssa Addesso, respectively as Cheshire rallied to beat Sheehan 2-1 on Oct. 6. Two days later, Pelletier recorded a hat trick in a 5-1 win at Lyman Hall. Bonitz assisted all three goals.

(Football) On Oct. 5, Yamin ran for 294 yards (personal-best) to help Cheshire beat host Daniel Hand 17-13 for the first time since 2009. They last won at Madison's Surf Club in 2008. Yamin tied his career-long run with an 80-yard touchdown (10-0) in the first quarter. The Rams haven't been 5-0 since 1998.

CHS Booster Club/Cheshire Herald Athletes of the Week

Congrats to the Cheshire High School Booster Club/The Cheshire Herald Athletes of the Week: offensive line (football), girls' volleyball, freshman Liz Boyer (girls' swim and dive), and senior Erik Ravenberg (boys' soccer).

(Football) Cheshire football shut out Sheehan 39-0 on Oct. 2, reaching 4-0 for the first time since 1998. The offensive line of seniors Cullen Clairmont (captain), Ray Albanese, Connor Fountain, Will Eddy, and Matt Rand cleared the way for 327 rushing yards. Senior Andrew Yamin ran for 222 yards and three touchdowns, while fellow senior captain Tony Marcucilli also scored on a 7-yard run.

(Girls' swim and dive) Boyer won four events in victories over host North Haven (93-82, Sept. 30) and Lauralton Hall (100-84, Oct. 2). At Walter J. Gawrych Community Pool in North Haven, Boyer swept the 50- (25.65) and 100-yard (55.7) freestyles. She also teamed with senior Lindsay Smalec to win the 200-yard medley (sophomore Danielle Dietrich, freshman Jordyn Deubel; 1:58.75) and 400-yard freestyle (sophomore Kristen Reid, Emily Murphy; 3:53.3) relays.

Against Lauralton Hall, Boyer captured the 200-yard individual medley (2:12.88) and 100-yard breaststroke (1:07.86). She also factored into winning the 200-yard medley (Smalec, sophomore Lily Kurtz, senior tri-captain Ellie Senft; 1:54.64) and freestyle (senior tri-captain Morgan Fountain, Murphy, freshman Amanda Go; 1:44.15) relays. Cheshire is still unbeaten!

CHS has currently won 40 matches in a row!

(Boys' Soccer) Cheshire trailed Sheehan 1-0 and 2-1 on Sept. 27, but came back to win 3-2. Ravenberg, a first-year starter on defense, netted his first varsity goal to break the 2-2 with 8:51 remaining.
